Description
Antique Navajo coin silver Ant hill garnet rocker engraved chisel/file design. We think we have found an older 1880-1885 Navajo rocker engraved chiseled ring! We are basing this on (Indian silver jewelry of the southwest 1868-1930) by Larry Frank. PP.205 for reference. Rocker engraving 1868-1880 chisel stamping 1868-1880 and Garnets for setting 1880-1885. un treated ant hill garnet in this instance. It looks to have a heavy flat bezel a little folded over with Diagonal chisel strikes to hold un treated loose stone. Please note rocker area hand made starts small and gets larger in middle of ring edge. Both master silversmith plains type design hand made(compare left design to right) Plains like design consistent with rocker engraving on thin coin silver to thin german silver objects like horse halter rocker work by Atsidi Sani. Also soldered bezel rough not smooth like if had flux, more like I would expect from saliva/ silver/ borax handmade flux or cold soldered joint
which method may have been in use by elder Peshlikai (roughly 1830–1910) who went by the name Slender Maker of Silver.
Studying the Indian silver jewelry of the southwest book this weekend We found Photo 25 on page 33 Smithsonian Institution Naja with almost exact setting of stone as our ring.
Stone Treatment: The stone appears to be untreated. Stone has been tested and guaranteed using a professional Presidium Duo refractive, heat, and hardness tester. Beautiful garnet stone with a deep red hue and lovely semi-translucency
The uncommon “ruby red” color of the gemstone is formed from high concentrations of aluminum in the particular areas where the gem is formed
Garnet is recognized as the January birthstone...and wearing it is a great way to start off your New Year! According to legend, Ant Hill Garnet has been said to help overcome anxiety, circulate blood pressure, and even enhance the health of the bones, lungs, and heart.
Ant Hill Garnet is exclusive to the Native American land and is not commercially mined due to its unique location and rarity.
