"The koteka, horim, or penis gourd is a penis sheath traditionally worn by native male inhabitants of the ethnic groups in New Guinea to cover their genitals. They are normally made from a dried-out gourd, Lagenaria siceraria, although other species, such as Nepenthes mirabilis, are also used. They are shaped while growing.
For daily use, for protection during work plain, unadorned gourd sheaths are usually worn. However, for the Yam harvest festival and other ceremonies these decorated sheaths are worn. They are individually woven producing marked differences in design and color."
