    Description

    Welcome!
Superb knifewing bracelet from the 1930s-1940s made with the quality of the great masters of that time, with mosaic inlay and elaborate silver work. The inlay is composed of turquoise, jet, mother of pearl white shell and spondylus shell inlays, one of which is a beautiful pale color, and the inlay is serrated bezel set with hand twisted and hand coiled silver wire and raindrop decoration, the turquoise appearing to be from the Blue Gem mine, especially lovely. The shank consists of 2 stamped carinated silver wires framing 2 inner twisted silver wires, all joined with vertical lipped support tabs at the terminals. There are deeply stamped really beautiful fan shaped silver cross supports to each side of the Knifewing. The carinated wires which provide the outside foundation for the bracelet are also nicely hang stamped. Someone cared to do a lot of extra work on this bracelet. You can see that all of the coiled pieces of silver were individually hand constructed, and the silver work is just beautiful. The bracelet wasn't signed as is typical of those times and wasn't marked for silver content as is also typical of those times. A friend with considerable expertise has attributed it to Frank Vacit based on many elements, but whoever made it was one of the great masters of that period. It's a top quality mosaic inlay knifewing bracelet from the early period and those are very rare. It's a very fine example, too, in suburb condition. It is at least coin silver at .900 or sterling silver at .925. The inlay is as beautifully done as is the all hand made silver work. It is splendid.
This bracelet weighs a substantial 40 grams and is 1-7/8"(4.76 cm) center. tapering at terminals. The internal length is 5-1/4"(13.34 cm) for the silver alone but there's considerable flexibility in the gap, which is about 1-1/4" (3.18 cm) at this time, so it's currently at a total of 6.5"(16.51 cm). Condition is excellent collectible vintage.
Frank Vacit was one of the all time great silversmiths in Zuni history, represented in the CG Wallace catalog, the best museums, and the best galleries.
This is an especially lovely knifewing bracelet, highly collectible, and it's suitable for any collection as well as for daily use and made by a very highly renowed artist. It's a very fine piece; museum worthy and the pricing is way lower than it should be.
